The push press uses leg drive to help move the bar from the shoulders to overhead. It trains force transfer from the legs through the torso to the arms.

Muscle group: Shoulder

Steps

Hold the bar on your shoulders. Bend your hips and knees slightly with your torso upright. Immediately extend your legs powerfully while keeping your torso braced. At the end of extension, rise onto the balls of your feet and continue pressing with your arms until your elbows are straight overhead. Lower the bar to your shoulders, cushioning the reception with a slight hip and knee bend. Straighten your legs before the next repetition.
